A Life Well Lived

Wilbur Paul Hollowell Sr. was born March 12, 1949, to the late Evelyn Josephine Sanderlin and Wilbur Vincent Hollowell. Wilbur's early years of life were spent in Huntersville, 808 Washington Avenue to be exact, at the age of four the family relocated to Chesapeake Gardens, which at that time was Norfolk County. Education began for Wilbur at Oakwood Elementary School, which was recently built and then he attended Rosemont Junior High also recently built and was a graduate of Booker T. Washington School, class of 1967. Upon graduation Wilbur was drafted into the U.S. Army as an Infantryman and served at Fort Benning, Georgia, Fort Polk, Louisiana and Fort Knox, Kentucky. After serving one tour in Vietnam and returned to the United States. Upon return, Wilber began his civilian career, working at the Newport News Shipyard, Norfolk Naval Shipyard and St. Julians Civil Creek, Naval Facility, before settling down at the Naval Supply Center where he retired. A man of many talents and passions, he was known for his creative skills and unique sense of style, at an early age, he amazed those around him with his ability to create games and structures with apparent ease, Wilbur was great at sports, especially football, and although he never played organized sports, he never lost that love of sports. Any weekend or weekday he was going to be sitting in front of a television set rooting for his team. Wilbur leaves to cherish his memory, his son Wilbur Paul Hollowell Jr. and daughter Kelly Loren Chellers (Kenneth), grandsons Nathaniel and Caleb Chellers, two brothers, Ansell Vincent Hollowell (Elizabeth) and Lyle Anthony Hollowell (Brenda), special friends John R. Briggs, Roger Bramlett and Aaronetta Tucker, there are many more friends that could be listed, but space won’t allow. Also important to Wilbur, are his cousins from the Davis Family, the Covel Family and the Minson Family.
