IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Stanley T.
Barnett Jr.
February 4, 1938 – October 30, 2024
On a winter day in 1938, Stanley Theoplus Barnett, Jr. was born to Stanley T. Barnett, Sr. and Edwina Gordon Barnett. Their baby boy grew up with his older sister Arviette B. Stewart in their beloved Huntersville neighborhood of Norfolk. Stanley's Christian education began in The Historic First Baptist Church Bute Street where he was active in the Scouts. "Bubba" as he was called was educated in Norfolk City Public Schools. He was a proud member of the Booker T. Washington Class of 1957 and looked forward to their celebrations. From a teenager to adulthood Stanley worked at the Naval YMCA in downtown Norfolk, where his father was the bookkeeper. As a mature young man, he married Zella J. Barnett, and he was employed for many years by S.L. Nusbaum Realty. Watching his children Regina B. Tyler and Stanley T. Barnett III grow into adulthood with their children, Evan Tyler, Aaron Tyler, Stanley Barnett IV and Samantha Barnett filled him with pride. In his later years, Stanley enjoyed many friendships and delighted in engaging in weekly conversations with "The Lunch Bunch". Stanley had a wonderful sense of humor, was a gentle and kind soul who loved God, and he took pleasure in helping others. On October 30, 2024, after a brief illness, he closed his eyes to the world. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister. Left to honor his memory with love and affection are his wife, his children, and numerous relatives and friends. We are thankful to God for his wonderful creation of Stanley "Bubba" Barnett, who could repair and build many things.
