Obituary

Romonia, who we all affectionately known as Rose entered this life on a beautiful summer day on July 19th, 1941, in Newport News, Virginia. Rose is the daughter of the late Florence and James Jarrett Sr. She attended Huntington High School in Newport News, VA where she met many of her life-long friends and maintained a loving and caring relationship with her relatives. Upon graduating Rose made her home in Austin Texas, Woodbridge Virginia, Washington, DC and New York City of where she resided for over 32 years. She was employed as a customer service agent for the IRS as well as a clock and watch builder. Her attention to detail from this line of work greatly spilled into the kitchen. The kitchen became her personal oasis and well-known hobby. There she passionately prepared a plethora of delicious meals for her family and friends and catered many events and festivities.

Rose relocated to Woodbridge VA where she married Joseph Harris. The two lived together until his untimely passing in 1996. Rose later married Leon R. Bullock Sr and relocated to Washington DC, Bronx NY and ultimately relocated to Hampton, VA near Rose's hometown of Newport News VA. There the two enjoyed many years together until Leon's sudden illness and passing in 2022. Rose devoted her love to her family and played a parental role to her nieces, nephew and stepchildren. Rose always uplifted everyone she knew, always offered sound advice whether it was from sharing recipes, building credit, decorating and healthy living and putting God first.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Florence and James Jarrett Sr.; brothers, James Jarrett Jr., Willis Jarrett and George S. Jarrett; and sisters, Florence Jarrett-Harris and Janett Jarrett-Dorsey.

Rose is survived by her stepchildren: Genie Bullock of Rahway, NJ; Leon Bullock Jr of Brooklyn, NY; Serbrina Bullock of Kissimmee, FL; and Louis (Luqman) Speight-Bullock of Indian Head, MD. She is also survived by her sister, Betty Jarrett-Watkins of the Bronx, NY; one brother, Robert Lee Jarrett Sr. of Newport News, VA; along with a host of cherished nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and neighbors.

Rose was always a spiritual person and maintained her faith despite many trials and tribulations. She suddenly became ill, and her health declined. During this time, she was assisted by her brother (Robert Lee) and relatives after the recent loss of their brother George. On her final moment at her bedside, she was attended to by her niece LaMondie and stepson Luqman. She peacefully transitioned on July 7th just shy of her 84th birthday. Her laughter, smile and passion for others will be forever remembered in the hearts of every person she met.
