Mr. Rolfe Robinson was born on July 4, 1945. He was the son of Mr. James and Mrs. Lavene Robinson. Rolfe was the youngest of five children. He was a delight and added joy to the family of two girls and two boys. Rolfe had a special gift of remembering everyone's birthday but it's interesting to note that his age would be younger each year. He was a child prodigy who loved all types of music. Rolfe had a beautiful laugh and enjoyed being with his family and friends. Rolfe contributed to policy changes in Virginia for special education. He was the test case for special education classes in the state of VA. His mother testified before the state legislature to have a bill passed that provided special education classes for African-American children. This took place during segregation when special education services were only available for white children.
Rolfe attended schools in Norfolk, Virginia where he was a very capable student who was able to have success in reading and writing. He loved to write, sing, and play all musical genres. Rolfe aspired to and became an amateur DJ. His records were meticulously catalogued and spanned the spectrum of classical, big bands and rhythm and blues artists.
Rolfe is predeceased by his parents and three siblings, Mrs. Dolores Johnson, Dr. James Robinson and Mrs. Joan Hamilton. He leaves his brother, Mr. Ronald Robinson of Newport News Virginia, several nieces, Dr. Winifred Phillips, Dr. Kathy Everett (Marshall), and Mrs. Sabina Doxie (Joseph), one nephew, Mr. James Robinson, III, three great-nieces, Dr. Vanessa Sheppard (Earle), Mrs. Vene Artis (Gury), Ms. Ryian Claude, several great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends who loved him dearly.
