Brother Roland Clarence Brown, Sr. entered eternal rest on Friday, September 15, 2023, in Hampton, Virginia. He was born on December 11, 1939, to the Late Edna Heller Henry and Willie B. Brown in Jacksonville, Florida. He matriculated in the Public School system of Jacksonville, Florida. He joined the United States Navy at age 15. He served faithfully until the military determined his true age and suspended him to return at age 16.
Brother Brown was married to Felicia Brown and previously Fannie Mae Brown who predeceased him in death. Together they have a blended family. He later found love again and married Felecia on December 15, 2012, and gained another daughter Crystal.
He retired from both the United States Navy and Civil Service receiving numerous awards and accolades throughout his career. He served with the Fleet Reserve in the United States Navy as a Boatswain's Mate First Class. He transferred from active duty to the Fleet Reserve of the United States Navy on May 30, 1978, and retired on December 1, 1986. He was honored by the Department of Navy on April 8, 1987 for his part in the location, verification and shipment of the "Big Eyes" as the administrative coordinator of the location, issue and preparation and smooth speedy completion of the evolution as a "Price Fighter" and received the Secretary of the Navy Action 88 Excellence award for Engineering, Field Activity, FY-87 on March 31, 1988; Fitting Out and Supply Support Assistance Center Information Assurance Training on Computers March 31, 1999. The Secretary of the Navy Career Service Award for Forty Years of Service on April 26, 1999. He received the Meritorious Civilian Service Award of high value and benefit to the Navy on September 30, 1999; Certificate of Nomination from the Congress of the United States accepted to the Official Membership in the American Legion Morale, Welfare and Recreation Association (MWRA) Gold Lifetime Honoree on September 29, 1999, and the Government Award from the United States of America for retiring after 40 years of Service on September 30, 1999.
He joined the Olive Grove Baptist Church and was baptized on April 26, 1981, under the leadership of the Late Harry A. Davis. He served on the Male Usher Board and the Men's Ministry and was generous supporter of the Children's Church and Youth Ministry.
He loved reading his Bible. His favorite scriptures were Psalm 23, Proverbs 26:11, Matthew 6:9 and especially James 3:1-12 encouraging everyone to "Bridle the Tongue". His favorite Hymns were "Peace Be Still" and "This World is not My Home." He loved to drive around in his green truck doing odd jobs, lawn care and painting for "Reasonable Rates" as Roland "RoRo" Brown. He loved to cook crab boil and woodworking by hand. He was affectionately known to all as "RoRo" or "The Clock Man" for his ability to make beautiful clocks, trinket boxes with the assistance of Popsicle sticks and coffee stirrers. He really enjoyed helping others.
Brother Brown is predeceased in death by his parents, seven brothers, daughter Deloris Edwards and his first wife Fannie. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife Felica, his children Linda (Johnson) Freeman, Gail (Ollie) Edwards and Crystal (Jermaine) Bryant. Roland "RoRo" (Chaka) Brown Jr. and Marvin (Arnetta) Burno. His grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson and a host of other relatives and friends.
Brother Brown was a great man who was highly honored and will be greatly missed.
