On Friday, July 28, 2023, the Lord called Mr. Percy Aubrey Johnson, Sr. to eternal rest. He was born to the late Lafayette and Margaret Johnson on September 23, 1944. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Gloria Cox Johnson. Percy and Gloria were the loving parents of three sons: Thadeus LeeVoyne Johnson, Sr., Percy Aubrey Johnson, Jr., and Jeffrey Adam Johnson. Left to cherish his memory are his four siblings, Lafayette A. Johnson, Jr, (Janet); Carl V. Johnson (Susan); Eric P. Johnson, (Valerie); and the Rev. Gloria J. Johnson, (Melvin, Sr.); four grandchildren, Eugene Ellis, Mo'nika Johnson, Thadeus Johnson, Jr., Lydia Johnson; 23 great- grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Percy was a product of the Norfolk Public School system. He graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1961 and matriculated to Norfolk State University. Percy was drafted into the United States Army from September 8, 1965, to August 8, 1967, and served as a medic in Vietnam. He returned to Norfolk State after serving in the United States Army and in 1970, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Percy was employed by the Norfolk Public School System.
