Michael B. " Eyeguy Mike"
Mills
March 18, 1947 – March 21, 2026
Michael Bruce Mills, beloved son of Frances and Cleona Mills, was born on March 18, 1947, in Evansville, Indiana, and entered into eternal rest on the evening of March 21, 2026. From a young age, Michael accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior and would freely give praises to his Higher Power.
His educational journey took him from the schools of Evansville, Indiana to Chicago, Illinois, laying the foundation for a remarkable career.
Affectionately known as "Mike," he discovered a passion for optics while living in Chicago, where he became a licensed, certified optician. Over the course of more than forty years, Mike distinguished himself in the field, retiring in the role of Master Optician at Sears stores. Despite a back injury that led to disability and difficulty in walking, his determination never wavered. Mike adapted by continuing to work as a mobile optician, earning the fond nicknames "Eyeguy Mike" and "Doc" from colleagues and friends, and tirelessly serving those in need.
Mike’s character was defined by selflessness, loyalty, and unwavering support for others. He possessed an eloquent voice, openly sharing stories of both triumph and adversity with those around him. Known for his candid honesty, tempered by a sharp tongue and often biting wit and humor, Mike’s wisdom and forthright communication made him a trusted confidant and mentor. His generosity extended to active involvement in charitable organizations, including support for the Union Mission Ministry and other charitable organizations.
Mike is preceded in death by his mother and father, his son, Stephen Mills, and his brother, Steven Mills.
Those fortunate enough to know Mike experienced the depth and sincerity of his unconditional love.
His encouragement and positive outlook inspired all who stayed close, leaving a lasting mark on the hearts of many. Mike’s legacy will endure through his family, including his sister Linda, beloved granddaughter Gabrielle, devoted life partner Dori, as well as an extended family of special cousins and cherished friends. May we all continue to honor his memory and the impact he had on countless lives, and remain united through shared stories and ongoing acts of kindness.
