Mervin A. Brickhouse, affectionately known as "Sis", was born December 25, 1932, in Woodland, N.C. from the union of the late Matilda Wilder Lassiter and George Henry Lassiter. Sis departed this life on December 28, 2012. At a very young age Sis met and married Roosevelt Harrell Sr., and to this union four children were born. Sis moved to Norfolk, VA. as a young woman, and after several part-time jobs Sis went to work at Penrod, Jurdan and Clark as a measurer. Sis worked twenty-three years at Penrod before she began a new career as a licensed in home day care provider. Sis cared for and loved many children, and did so until she was no longer able to provide service and decided to retire. She also fellowshipped at Macedonia U.C.C. "Sis" was preceded in death by her father and mother, brother, Joe Willie Lassiter, sisters, Evelyn Britt and Ella Mae Tillery; daughter, Matilda A. Harrell, son, Melvin "Fat Rat" Harrell. She leaves to mourn in her passing, brother, Linwood Porter, sister, Marie Lassiter, sons, Roosevelt Harrell, Jr. (Donna) and George H. Harrell (Brenda), nine grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
