On January 12, 2014 our beloved mother Maude Edenfield Ricks was called home to the Lord. A native of Georgia she was born to the late Freddie and Sallie Tillman Edenfield and was the widow of Lloyd Ricks. Maude was a graduate of Hampton Institute (Hampton University) and received her B.A. and Masters Degree in Education, she taught in the Charlottesville School System. Also she was one of the first African Americans to teach in the Hampton Public School System in the early 1970s after desegregation from which she retired, and was a licensed minister, and was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. She leaves to her loving memory, children, Rhonnye L. Ricks of New York City, Lloyd T. Ricks, III of Norfolk, Cassandra R. Allen of Burtonsville, MD, Carol L. Ricks of Englewood, New Jersey, Frederica Ricks- Winston (Jerome) of Mechanicsville, VA and V. Denise Ricks of Lanexa, VA., four grandchildren and one great grandchild, a sister, Burnese Edenfield Smith( Morris C.Smith)a brother Ernest Edenfield and a brother in law George Ricks of Norfolk. A viewing will be held Thursday January 16, from 2-8 pm at Riddick Funeral Service, an Omega Omega Service; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated will begin at 6pm.
