Obituary

Maryland "Bo" Williams, Sr., 79, of Norfolk, VA, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at his home after a long struggle with diabetes. He was born Aug. 25, 1937 in Kelford/Bertie County, N.C. Maryland attended Jaycox School in Norfolk, VA. He was a devoted husband, father, and father figure to many of his nieces, nephews and grandchildren.  Maryland loved many hobbies, go carts, working on cars, mini bikes, fishing, and traveling. Maryland's' favorite shows he watched was all kinds of westerns from John Wayne to Clint Eastwood and wrestling shows just to name a few. His favorite foods, was, oxtails, fried fish, chicken, and pigtails. He also loved dogs, which he owned for many years, one in particular named Chef.  Maryland Sr. was employed with the City of Norfolk, 1957-1958, Mid-Atlantic Coca- Cola Bottling Corp., Norfolk, VA 1959 to 1983. He went to work for Norfolk Public Schools as a Custodial Supervisor from 1984 to 2000. He later became disabled and resigned in 2000. He was well known by many because of his gentle kindness and giving heart. He was a very loving father and husband who he gave his entire life to until God called him home . Maryland was preceded in death by his mother, Lucy Clark, wife, Rosie May Williams, Mother–in-law, Sarah Burrus, Father-in-law Harvey Burrus, Sr., brother, Cornelius Williams, two sisters, Mammie Faison, Fannie Williams, and son, Leon Williams.   Maryland Williams, Sr. leaves to cherish his memories, children; Maryland Williams, Jr. (Valerie), Kelley Williams and Juanita Williams-Woodhouse (Marvin) all of Norfolk, VA, George Williams (Wanda) of Elkridge, Md., two sisters; Viola Haynes of San Francisco, CA, Nettie M. English of Philadelphia, PA (Norman) James M. Williams, Sr. of Norfolk, four sister in-laws, Lena Moton of Virginia Beach,, VA, Marietta Thorton, Sabrina Brown of Norfolk, VA, and Sarah Clark of N. Chesterfield, VA. And three brother-in-law's, Norman English of Philadelphia, PA., Harvey Burrus, Jr. and Richard Burrus of Norfolk, VA. Five grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
