Obituary

Norfolk - Letitia Renee Rose Batey passed quietly and peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, September 1, 2013 at her residence. She was a native of Roanoke, Virginia and was the daughter of the late Calvin C. and Eleanor Beane Rose. She was the wife of Marion G. "Marty" Batey, Jr. Renee, as she was affectionately known, was a 1972 graduate of Jefferson High School and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1976 from Morgan State College in 1976 with a bachelor's degree in Art. She held various positions with Virginia National Bank (now Bank of America), among them branch manager, Community Investment Coordinator for Hampton Road, and program and design in the Information and Technology Division. In 1995 she joined her husband in his painting business as an interior decorator. In 2005 she became manager of operations for NCP Community Federal Credit Union and served as its manager until her health failed. She was a member of St. Luke's AME Church, Chesapeake. Renee was very active in the community and served as a board member and president of the YWCA of Hampton Roads, board member of the Norfolk Arts Commission, and a member of the advisory board of the Crispus Attucks Cultural Center in Norfolk. She leaves to cherish her previous memory her husband of thirty-three glorious years, Marion Batey, Jr. of the home; two Brothers David Arnell Rose (Vicki) and Walter Calvin Rose (Pamela); a sister-in-law, Pamela Batey Bright (Bernell); and a brother-in-law, Daryl Dwayne Batey (Melba). She will also be sorely missed by her nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and other relatives and friends, and especially her furry companion Sam. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at 2 PM at St. Luke's AME Church, 241 St. Luke's Church Rd., Chesapeake, with the Rev. Harrilene Shackelford officiating. The family would like to thank everyone who helped during her illness. Special thanks to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Sentara Hospice Home Care Service, and especially Kameelah Rashada, a devoted neighbor and friend.
