On January 26, 2021, Kathryn Delores Calhoun Crews transitioned peacefully to be with the Lord. Born on December 4, 1929 in Norfolk, VA, she was the youngest of four. She was preceded in death by Bernice Calhoun Lewis, Charles Edward Calhoun, Benjamin Calhoun, Alma Harris Calhoun (Mother) and Charles Calhoun (Father). Graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and attended the Norfolk Division of Virginia State College. She was married to her beloved Robert Hinton Crews of Bluefield, West Virginia, on December 2, 1961 for 59 years. They were blessed with their son Robert Clinton (55) in 1969 and the Lord blessed them in 1972 with the birth of their daughter Kimberly Denise (48).
She retired from Norfolk Public Schools Food Services in 1991 and was a faithful member of Shiloh Baptist Church, where she was an active member in a number of church auxiliary boards and committees including the Choir, Usher Board #3, Shell Bible Class, Food Pantry, Clothes Closet, Missionary and Hospitality Boards. Her community activities included Room Mother, PTA, Marching Band Booster, Prince and Princess Club, Hunterville's Senior Club, Seniors in Motion, and the Minority Health Coalition.
She traveled extensively with social clubs on shopping and casino trips, with her church to Lott Cary Conventions, numerous cruise excursions, and first class accommodations to Hawaii. Kathryn was a naturally nurturing person who provided shelter, love and motherly support to many. She was fearless by nature and loved a good adventure.
Kathryn was welcoming to all she encountered and she radiated kindness and compassion. Throughout her life, she would take those in need under her wing, and through her kindness and generosity would provide them love, support and confidence to succeed.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bob, her children Clinton, Kimberly Easter, son-in law Robert Omar Easter, the light of her life, her grandson, Robbie (Robert Crews Easter), along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and her church family. She will be truly missed by all that knew her.
