June Antionette James (Ellis) passed away on Tuesday August 8, 2017, in Norfolk, Virginia surrounded by her loving family and friends. June was born in Norfolk, Virginia, December 31, 1959, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Carolyn James, and the wife of Edwin Lee Ellis. June was reared in Norfolk, Virginia and attended public schools in Norfolk. She also attended Norfolk State University. She was an administrative assistant for Tidewater UniServ for over 30 years. June was predeceased by her parents and one sibling; Kenneth James. Surviving siblings are Richard James of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Kimberly Scruggs of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and Beverly Harrell of Portsmouth, Virginia. She also leaves to mourn her daughters, Tiffaney James of Norfolk, Virginia; Brittaney Slaughter (Samuel) of Portsmouth, Virginia and (Edwin's daughters) Caronne Sease (Kevin) of Norfolk, Virginia and Kaye Jones (James) of Charlotte, North Carolina. Mourning her passing are also five grandchildren; Ethan James (Brandi) Evan Jayla James, Cecilia James, Ava James, and little Samuel Edwin Slaughter. She also leaves to cherish her memory four great-grandchildren. Debra "Genelle" MacBeath, her long time friend from childhood, has also been left to cherish her memory, along with many close relatives and friends. June was a faithful member of Woodland Avenue Baptist Church for over 25 years. She served on various church ministries; Usher Board#2, the E.F. Gregory Missionary Circle; the Senior Choir; the Deaconess Ministry; the Clara M. Ellis Scholarship Ministry, and the Noon Day Bible Study Class. June also served for many years as the Church Clerk. Junes James loved the youth of the church, she established a great rapport with them and helped coordinate many fun trips and activities in which the young people engaged. June will be greatly missed by family, friends, and church members alike. She gave her all in everything in which she participated. It is certain that when she reached heaven, the Master said, "Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of the Lord" (Matthew 25:23)
