In June of 1953, he married his childhood sweetheart, Florence Elizabeth Boone. He became father to ten children. He was a member of Union Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, VA., where he served on the board of Ushers and also in the Men's Ministry. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he was engaged in the Korean conflict and subsequently received an honorable discharge. He was one of the founders of Lindsey Brothers' Inc. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Supply Center after thirty years of service. He was a baseball enthusiast and in his young adulthood played community baseball. Recently, he took an interest in golf, and participated in the Virginia Desert Conference tournament where he received a third place trophy. He was a very active member of the American Legion Post Five. He was a Prince Hall Mason, serving as a Grand Vice Director, Treasurer, Trustee, Past Grand Director, and faithful Reindeer for Heritage Lodge #50 for over 35 years. He was also a Shriner, belonged to the Benevolent Order of Reindeer, the Arabian Temple #12, Excelsior Lodge #87 and the Eastern Star Lodge #82. During recent years he suffered with chronic illnesses. During the past year, these became acute and he was in and out of the hospital. However, because of his zest for life, and with trust in God, he valiantly put off going into that "gentle good night" as long as possible. That battle ended April 23, 2013. He was preceded in death by his father, James Jeffrey Lindsey, and his mother Jenny Holloman Lindsey; his sister, Ella Louise Lindsey James; his sister Clara King; his brother, William Lindsey and his wife Lena; and his brother Freddie Lindsey. He also had four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren who preceded him in death. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Florence Elizabeth Boone Lindsey; his sister, Cora Lee Lindsey Taylor; his brothers, James Lindsey (Nola), Connie Lindsey (Viola); brothers-in-law, George James and Jimmy King; and sister-in-law, Gladys Lindsey. Also cherishing his memory are his children: Lilly Wheeler (Lester), Phyllis Brown (Leslie), Jesse Lindsey Jr., Sheila White (Henry), Gwendolyn Hannon (John), Curtis Lindsey (Angela), Cora Banks (Bobby), Sharon Womack (Charles), Robin Ralph (John), and Antonio Lindsey.
