Our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Friend, Jean Ann Young was called to her Heavenly Home on December 15, 2020. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends, she so beautifully touched and deeply loved, throughout her life.
Jean was born on July 31, 1933, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Louise Hinton. She worked at Lafayette Villa for (10) years, where she initially started in housekeeping. Jean's beautiful personality and gentle spirit caught the attention of a Nurse on staff, and she approached Jean with the opportunity to test to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Jean was driven and passionate about helping others, and jumped at the opportunity with open arms. Soon after, Jean reached her goal of becoming a CNA. With great honor, she served as a CNA for (5) years, at Lafayette Villa and was often thought of as a Nurse, as she carried her job with such grace and professionalism.
Jean had a desire to further her career and become a Nurse, but sadly her Mother, the late Louise Hinton became ill, and Jean resigned from her position as a CNA to care for her mother, up until her passing. There were no regrets, only the appreciation of life's great experiences. She enjoyed the journey and the path God laid out for her, placing her in a better position to care for her beloved Mother.
Fondest memories of Jean Young was her love for family, friends and life. Her beautiful smile would fill up a room and her generous spirit made her unforgettable. She always thought of others before herself and took pride in ensuring her family was cared for.
Jean love for sports, specifically basketball, was her all-time favorite entertainment to watch. Her son's played basketball, and Jean was their top Cheerleader. There are so many stories that can be shared, but one of Jean's enjoyable experiences while raising her children, was her joy to go see her son Willie Young Jr. play basketball. Jean was in attendance for every game, wearing a pinkish red coat. You could easily pick her out of the crowd. Her son Clarence Young made sure of it… as they both were granted season tickets to Maury Highschool Basketball game by the Coach, as he too, understood the importance of Jean being present for her son and supporting his dreams of playing ball.
Family always came first, as Jean loved family gatherings and being around those she loved. She leaves to cherish her memory, eight (8) children, Donald Riddick of Baltimore, MD, Willie Young Jr. of Elizabeth City, NC, and locally, Labeeb Salaam (Velma), Curtis Young, Clarence Young (Crystal), Ralph Young, Phyllis Young, Belinda Hampton; twenty-eight (28) grandchildren; forty-five (45) great-grandchildren; five (5) great-great grandchildren; and a host of loving relatives and friends.
