Obituary

Jameel Ali Mubaarik (Gary Joyner) was born September 19, 1954, in Princess Anne County to the late Carrie Joyner Cross and Elisha Willie Jr. He was raised in the Burton Station Community, where he built a strong connection with family and friends. He was a member of the United House of Prayer for All People, Burton Station. Jameel went to Virginia Beach Public Schools and graduated from Old Dominion University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Jameel also served our country as a Marine and later was a member of the 82nd Airborne of the US Army. He to pride in his accomplishments and being a mechanical engineer, he also helped build the Auto Zone on Haygood Road in Virginia Beach, VA. Later in life he began his transition to Islam, Jameel enjoyed life and his family. Jameel was preceded in death by his parents, maternal grandparents, Georgia Whitmore and Ananias Joyner, paternal grandparents, Ida Willie and Elisha Willie Sr. and a brother Fred Lee Cross, Sr. Jameel leaves to cherish his memories a daughter, Yasmine Mubaarik, Africa. Loving siblings, Saul (Lauretta) Anthony, Perry (Sandra) Cross, Stephen (Sharon) Cross, Envangle Joyner, Velgene Eastman, Valarie Pierce, Sylvia (Michael) Longstreet, Karen (Roger) Ashley, Valerie (James) Barrington, Wendy A. Willie, Regina M. Hibbler and Sabrina Hibbler. Aunt Alberta Knight of Michigan, Uncles George (Ophelia) Joyner of Chesapeake, Herman Joyner of Richmond, VA and Jerry Joyner of Norfolk, VA, a special cousin Thaddeus Harold and a host of loving, nieces, nephews and cousins. The family of Jameel Ali Mubaarik would like to thank you for your acts of kindness, prayers and words of comfort and thank those who assisted with his care during his illness, we thank you and it will never be forgotten.
