Jackie Matthews Sr. passed away on Wednesday, April 12,2023.

Jackie was born the youngest son of fourteen children to Ernest and Alma Matthews on September 12, 1947, in Norfolk, VA. He worked as a civil service truck driver for 16 years, then transitioned to driving trucks for Pierce Aluminum for 5 years. He retired in 2010. He had a passion for collecting coins and stamps, was well as editing videos.

He spent his formative years in the Barraud Park section of Norfolk. He attended and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1965. After graduating Jackie joined the Air Force and was honorably discharge in 1969. Upon completion of his military service, he attended Norfolk Business College where he met his wife, Cheryl Dixon. They married June 26, 1971. Jackie and Cheryl had their first child in 1978, Jackie Jr. followed by a daughter in 1982, Leslie Anne.

Jackie was proceeded in death by his mother, Alma Beatrice Matthews, father Ernest Lawrence Matthews, and 11 other brothers and sisters.

Jackie is survived by his wife of 52 years, Cheryl Dixon Matthews, his two children Jackie Bernard Matthews Jr and Leslie Anne Matthews, his brother, Jimmy Matthews and sister Eunice Lewis, granddaughter Maddison Brianne Jones and countless nieces and nephews.

Per Jackie's final wishes he fully donated his body to science and no services will be held.
