Howell Webster
Hill Sr.
September 10, 1931 – June 6, 2019
Howell Webster Hill Sr. went to his eternal rest on Thursday June 6, 2019 at the age of 87. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on September 10, 1931, the son of the late Mary Thomas and Daniel Webster Hill. His parents instilled a strong faith in him at an early age. Howell married his best friend and soul mate, Frances L. Hill. A marriage which has lasted almost 52 years. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School Class of 1948. served in the Army from July 1952-June 1954, where he attained the rank of Drill Sergeant. He was a dedicated worker at Norfolk Naval Supply Center for 37 years. Upon retiring from he went to work for Sentara as a courier for more than 10 years. Affectionately known as Pop, after retirement from Sentara he spent his days with family and church. As a devoted member of Jerusalem Baptist Church since the age of 14, he loved his church and church family. He served as a member of the Senior Choir, the Male Chorus and Chairman of the Deacon Board for 25 years. He assisted in coordinating church operations during two pastorial vacancies helping ensure that the transitions went smoothly. Pop leaves to cherish his memory a loving wife, Frances Hill, sister Jane Gwen Dorsey-Daniels, his children, Janice Harris (Kenneth), Michael Hill (Patricia), Howell W. Hill Jr. (Pamela) Michael Jordan and Constance James, nine loving grandchildren, and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Ann Yarborough and daughter Carol Wilder.
