Today we celebrate the victory of Herman Lee Phelps, a humble, God fearing man who loved his family and a good home cooked country meal.

He especially enjoyed North Carolina sausages.  He was born September 10, 1938 in Washington County, North Carolina the son of the late Willis Phelps, Sr and Stenner Norman Phelps.  He was also predeceased by his brothers Willis, Jr, John and Robert Lee, sister's Alberta Miller, and Pearlie Jacobs.  Additionally, he was predeceased by his wife Christine Midgett.  Herman completed his earthly journey on May 3, 2021.  Herman received his early education in the Washington County, NC public school system and Norfolk, VA public school system before returning to North Carolina to live.  He met and united with the mother of his children, Evelyn Spruill Phelps. The young couple relocated to Norfolk to begin their life together. His employment in Norfolk was primarily with the Roses Department store chain.  He retired after numerous years of service with that company.  He later worked as an attendant at Scope, a cultural and entertainment venue in Norfolk, Va.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters Lea Ann and Kathleen.  His sister Mary Eure and two grandchildren Darnell and Jaeda. Bonus children and sisters-in-law from his marriage to Chris.  The mother of his children, Evelyn and a host of nieces, nephews, great/great great nieces and nephews and cousins.  Also, many friends. Herman had a bromance relationship with Gaston Collins and David-Henry Collins which was evidenced with weekly three-way telephone conversation. They will sincerely cherish their memories of Herman.
