Harold Johnston was born in New Kensington, Pennsylvania, a small suburb outside of Pittsburgh, to Ruth Brown and William Powell.

At the age of 15, Harold left home to join the Navy, leaving behind a challenging life.

He later moved to NYC, where he held various jobs, primarily working in the men's fashion district, while also running an ice cream truck and a candy store in Queens, NY.

After starting a few families, Harold sought more from life and returned to the sea, sailing for MSC for over 30 years. He made a career out of it, earned his Mates license, and in the 1980s settled in Norfolk, Virginia, making it his home.

Harold became a pillar of the community, a friend and mentor to many, and above all, a good man, a good father, a better grandfather, and a great neighbor.

He is survived by 5 children, 19 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. He was loved and will be missed by all.
