Gracie Mae Anthony was born May 13, 1935, in Norfolk, Virginia to Parents Leonard and Josephine Hopkins, and went home to be with the Lord on December 5, 2023. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. She met her husband, Lonell Anthony, Sr. of Norfolk, VA and they were married March 3, 1952 in Norfolk, VA. Together, they raised their family of 12 children to love and respect the Lord: Larry Hopkins(Elizabeth), Malcolm Anthony Sr.(Brenda), Victor Anthony(Diane), Chandra Johnson(Rudolph), Colleen Anthony, Lonell Anthony Jr, Wayne Anthony(Arlette), Arthur Anthony(Beverly), Andre Anthony, Dion Anthony(Sabrina), Jeffrey Anthony(Rhonda), and Sabrina Gadson.
Gracie became an evangelist at Mason Memorial Church of God in Christ. In 1985, she and Lonell Sr. founded Living Faith Church of God in Christ. "For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the Spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh."(Philippians 3:3) Gracie worked as a Prayer Counselor at CBN's The 700 Club Prayer Counseling Center for over 20 years. Gracie was a renowned poet, authoring the poem The Gardens displayed on the "Breaking Ground" Sculpture in Norfolk Botanical Gardens and reciting it annually at their WPA Heritage Celebration until her grandchildren began reciting it in proxy in 2022.
In addition to her children, she leaves to cherish her memory a host of grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great grandchildren; other family and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; siblings; husband, Reverend Lonell Anthony Sr.; son-in-law, Rudolph Johnson; grandson, Lonell Anthony III; and daughter-in-law, Brenda Anthony.
Her favorite scripture was "Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:14)
