Georgia Diana Allen, caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, of Norfolk/Virginia Beach, Virginia passed away at the age of 66 on Monday, January 31, 2022.
Georgia was born to Victor and Hyacinth Sherriffe on March 7, 1955 in Oracabessa, Jamaica. The oldest of the siblings, Georgia took on the responsibility of becoming a caregiver to her brothers and sisters after the passing of her father while maintaining her education in primary and secondary school. In her early 20's, she became a seamstress and an Interior Designer. In 1974, Georgia moved to Kingston, Jamaica where she was the Club Manager for Rosemont Club. Here, she began conversing with the disc jockey, William Allen, who quickly became the love of her life. In 1992, Georgia relocated to Brooklyn, New York working as a private nanny. In 1994, she relocated with her loving husband to Ohio. Where they opened their first Caribbean grocery store and restaurant named Kingston International Market & Cafe. In 1999, William and Georgia established a new home in Norfolk, Virginia. In 2000, they established a Caribbean restaurant named Papa Willies Caribbean Kitchen. She was known by all the patrons as "Mrs G" with her infectious laugh, delectable rum cakes, and her loving personality for everyone who stepped foot into the restaurant. In 2010, Georgia made the decision to retire. In retirement, she continued to keep busy by becoming an in-home childcare provider. Georgia also became a member of Spirit of Truth Ministries and turned her life over to Christ.
Georgia loved to listen to music and dance. She loved spending time in the kitchen baking and cooking. She also adored shopping and was known for stylish fashion sense which birthed her nickname "Princess Diana". Georgia especially treasured being surrounded by her previous loved ones.
Georgia will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 47 years, William (Papa Willie); children Denise Manasaram, Chrishna Mansaram, Yolanda House (Mark), Ericka Armstrong (Lavon); grandchildren Shantale Chatrie, Rajae Spence, Tatiana House, Ayana House, Tahjae Mansaram, Chrishane Mansaram, Chrishna Mansaram Jr, Chrishawn Mansaram, Kieshane Mansaram, Kayla Mansaram, Azalia Mansaram; Great grandchild Keishane Reid, brothers Garfield Sherriffe, Winston Sherriffe, Delroy Sherriffe; sisters Johanna Grange (Philbert); Dacia Sherriffe. She loved all of her seven nieces and five nephews dearly and cherished the time she spent with them; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. She will be deeply missed by all of her family and friends. Her light will shine brightly in all the hearts she inspired.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents, Victor and Hyacinth Sherriffe.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 11, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Riddick Funeral Service, 1225 Norview Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia 23513. A Celebration of Georgia's Life will be held on Saturday February 12, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., at Turning Point Church 2641 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach, Virginia 23456. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery, 8100 Granby Street, Norfolk 23518. Repass is at 1:30 p.m. at Ultra Lounge 5957 E Virginia Beach Blvd, Norfolk,VA 23502.
