Obituary

.

Ernestine White Williams was born on November 3, 1948 in Norfolk, Virginia.  She was predeceased by her husband Joseph L. Williams Sr. and best friend of 46 years, her late mother, Doris L. White and brother, Ernest G. White Jr.

She is known by many names, Mom, Tine, Tina, Miss Ernie, Ms. Williams and Aunt Tine.

She attended and graduated from Norfolk public schools completing her education with a BS degree in sociology from Norfolk State College, class of 1972. Her career began in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she married and had a son, Joseph L. Williams Jr.

She along with her family returned to Norfolk, VA to live in 1997. The three found a church home in the Historical First Baptist Church Bute Street, Norfolk, VA where they joined shortly after their arrival.

Tine was a happy spirit, loved God, her church, her family and friends. She enjoyed attending all the church services, special programs and a constant participant in all her duties in the church. She took great delight in cooking, serving and giving to all that wanted to eat her food and there were many. Anytime she was called upon to serve or donate, she never questioned, just did her part. In 2014, her decline in health began but she was always supportive until her death on July 14, 2025.

She served on the female usher board #2, the Seniors in Action, Georgia Jefferson/ Mary Mason Missionary Circle and a contributor to the shower ministry and the READY academy

She leaves many to cherish her memory, a son, Joseph L. Williams Jr.  of Norfolk, va, a sister Brenda M. Jenkins of Norfolk, VA and other relatives and friends including Cheryl Fentress, Helen F. Williams and Evelyn "Evie" Willis.

Ernestine will be sincerely missed and eternally remembered by all whose lives she touched.

Rest in peace, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. We will always love and miss you.
