Elizabeth "Liz" R. Gamble was born on July 25, 1939, to the late Charles L. Ricks and Nettie B Ricks. She was the eldest of nine children. On Sunday, February 12, 2023, Liz passed into eternal rest.
Liz accepted Christ as her savior at an early age. She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Ivor, Virginia. After leaving home in her early adult life, she joined Bank Street Memorial Baptist Church, Norfolk, Virginia, where she remained a member until her passing.
Liz was educated in the Sussex County Public System. Liz worked many jobs early in her career, including school secretary and managing a women's clothing boutique. Her most cherished job was being the Service Center Manager at Cox Communications. As a manager, Liz oversaw the service centers for Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, York County, Ft. Eustis, James City, and Gloucester. She built service center offices from the ground up; and developed the New Employee Training Manual that was used as a blueprint for Cox Communications phone centers. Liz worked 24 years at Cox Communications. She cherished the many close relationships she developed with her Cox Communications family.
After retiring, Liz enjoyed relaxing at home, reading books, journaling, doing word search puzzles, and talking to family and friends. Liz was known for her in-depth candid talks and sense of humor. Liz was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, Liz is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Gamble, her stepfather Euclis Colbert, brothers Raymond, Charles, William, and Clarence Ricks, and sister Larsene Ricks.
She leaves to cherish her memories loving sons Bobby Ricks and wife Lorraine of Disputanta, Virginia, Michael Gamble of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and loving daughter Veronica McCain and husband Billy of Potomac Falls, Virginia. Her three sisters Joyce Whitney and husband Harvey of Suffolk, Virginia, Carolyn Barnes of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Linda Lyons and husband James of Prince George, Virginia. She will also be missed by her three grandchildren, Shenik Pinder, Bobby Ricks Jr, and William Paul McCain, six great- grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, and special relatives and friends.
I thank you for the love you each have shown.
But now it's time I travel alone.
So grieve awhile for me if you must,
Then let your grief be comforted in trust,
It's only for a time we must part,
So bless the memories within your heart.
