Fleetwood Hines
January 17, 1946 – January 27, 2018
Elder Shirley F. Hines was born January 17, 1946 and raised in Woodland North Carolina and born to the late Arthur and the Clara Stephenson Fleetwood. A graduate of Elizabeth City State University, Shirley began her teaching career at I.C. Norcom High School; and was a member of the National Education Association(NEA) . Shirley was an active and devoted member of the NAACP; a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. In the 80's she founded Citizens Press America News, VA Black Press Media Service, Church of the New Millennium (The Church Without Walls). She helped the residents of Fairwood Homes in Portsmouth, VA when the relocation process began. She was an advocate, Civil Rights Activist, she was on the forefront for the rights of people and was always there to help whomever. Among many acts of kindness , she was involved in politics, had a radio show called the Political Points, a grant writer. Church Rebuilding Coordinator for Greater Mount Zion Tabernacle Church which burned in 1995. She assisted those whose homes were going through foreclosure. Left to cherish her loving memory, a daughter; S.W. Hines, two grandchildren Zak and Zakia and a host of loving relatives and friends.
