IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Dorothy Mary
Hemingway
February 7, 1920 – April 9, 2021
Dorothy (Ganoung) Hemingway grew up on a farm in Ithaca NY, a red-haired beauty who graduated from Rochester Business Institute and, in 1945 married James Leroy Hemingway (who served in the Pacific). She relocated with her American Airlines employee husband to several midwestern cities, then to New York, Massachusetts, and finally Springfield, VA. She delighted in her expanding family and wanted to spend as much time with them as she could. She was an active member of Springfield United Methodist Church until moving to Hampton Roads three years ago. She enjoyed dancing, painting, traveling (especially with family), golf (especially Tiger), and bowling – which she gave up at age 95 after beating most of her family at a birthday bowling party. She leaves behind three children, Sandy Hemingway, Pat Boswell (Billy) and Doug Hemingway (Edie); four grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Dorothy will be buried at Arlington National Cemetery with her beloved husband. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Springfield United Methodist Church, 7047 Old Keene Mill Rd., Springfield, VA 22150.
