With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for her life, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Claudia Perkins, who passed away peacefully on July 5, 2025, at the age of 73.

Born on August 8, 1950, in Norfolk, Virginia to the late James H. Perkins and Dorthy Mae Perkins of Norfolk, Virginia. She was a force of nature bold, honest, and fiercely loving. She lived her life with strength, conviction, and an unwavering sense of self. As a single mother, she faced life's challenges head-on, raising her family with grit, determination, and an unshakable love that shaped the lives of all who knew her.

Claudia was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, where she first began to show the determination, intelligence, and spirit that would define her throughout her life. Her time there shaped her into the strong, independent woman she became, and she remained proud of

Claudia didn't sugarcoat things. She told the truth, exactly how it was, whether you were ready to hear it or not, but that honesty was part of what made her so deeply respected and loved. Her words, though direct, always came from a place of care and fierce loyalty. Her friends and family knew that she was someone you could count on dependable, no-nonsense, and full of heart.

Claudia is preceded in death by her son Alonzo Perkins, sisters Lillian Durham (Cookie), and Joyce Johnson, and brothers Reginald Perkins and James Perkins (JC). She is the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren, each of whom she adored and guided in her own straightforward, unforgettable way and are left to cherish her memory; Dane'tia Wilkins (John), Breyan Mitchell (Alana), Ashton Perkins, Qu'Niya Richardson, Alonzo Perkins Jr., Excell Perkins, Qu'Banique Richardson, Elyza Bynum, and Liam Phillips, 7 great grandchildren, and many extended family and friends were blessed to know her.

Though she has left this world, her voice, her laughter, and her unwavering love will echo in our hearts forever.

"She spoke her mind, loved with all her heart, and never backed down from a challenge. We were lucky to be loved by her."
