Carrie Lee Pearson was born on May 25, 1941, in Bishopville, South Carolina, to Charlie and Viola (Simon) Tindal. She was raised in Bishopville and remained there until she married her beloved husband, Sammie Lee Pearson, on October 6, 1958. From this union came three children, Sammie Lee Pearson Jr., Christopher Lamar Pearson, and Felecia Marie Pearson. Carrie and Sammie built their family on fairness, honesty, love, and faith, with Jesus Christ at the center of their values. Through military service, Carrie had the opportunity to travel and experience the world. She worked for AAFES, military retail services, as a salesclerk for over 25 years. During her tenure, she received numerous awards and commendations for her dedication and service before retiring. Carrie Pearson was a devoted servant of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Family, friends, church members, and coworkers can all attest to her unwavering commitment to sharing the Gospel. She was a faithful member of two churches and served extensively at the Main Chapel on Fort Eustis in Virginia. Her service included leading Wednesday night prayer meetings, counseling soldiers preparing for deployment or returning home, and providing spiritual guidance and encouragement. She strongly professed the importance of committing one’s life to Christ and supported the baptism of young soldiers at Fort Eustis. Carrie also hosted weekly prayer meetings in the den of her home, welcoming church members and friends. Her ministry extended beyond church walls as she provided counsel, time, donations, and financial support to those experiencing homelessness. Carrie was a loving, God-fearing woman who loved her family and friends unconditionally. She was also known as a strict disciplinarian with a sharp tongue and a strong sense of right and wrong. She believed deeply in treating others with respect and insisted that people treat others as they wished to be treated. She prayed every day for her children, Junior, Chris, and Felecia, keeping them at the forefront of her heart and life. She adored her daughters-in-law, Romana and Salima, and cherished her grandchildren, believing they could do no wrong. Carrie valued the competitive nature of life and encouraged everyone never to accept the status quo, always striving to be their best with Jesus leading the way. She embraced many as her own children, including friends of Chris and Felecia. She shared a lifelong bond with her sisters in faith, Evangelist Flossie, Lucille, Creola, and Penny.
Carrie expressed her love for her Savior through her writing, authoring her first book titled Message to the Next Generation: The Memoirs of Carrie Tindal-Pearson. She loved to laugh and had a captivating sense of humor. She enjoyed music and sports and showed her support by faithfully attending events. Carrie loved cooking, especially her famous fried chicken. Her home was always open; her home was your home. It was not an uncommon occurrence for anyone to be included in holiday dinners if they didn’t have anywhere else to go
Her greatest joy came from reading her Bible, sharing the goodness of her Savior, and her greatest hobby of all, praying. Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Sammie Lee Pearson Sr., her son, Sammie Lee Pearson Jr., her parents, Charlie and Viola Tindal of Bishopville, South Carolina, her brothers Charlie Tindal Jr. and Johnny Tindal of Bishopville, and her sisters Mary Benjamin of Paterson, New Jersey, Lucille McDuffie of Paterson, New Jersey, and Annie Mae Dockery of Wilmington, North Carolina.
She leaves to cherish her memory her two surviving children, Felecia Pearson of Riverdale, New York, and Christopher Pearson of Norfolk, Virginia. Sisters Evangelist Flossie Tremble of Newark, Delaware, and Creola Wheeler of Bishopville, South Carolina. Brother-in-law Henry Pearson of Bishopville, South Carolina. Daughters-in-law Romana Bell-Pearson of Potomac, Maryland, and Salima Pearson of Norfolk, Virginia. She also leaves her grandchildren, September West of Riverdale, New York, Samantha Pearson and Joshua Pearson of Potomac, Maryland, Messiah Pearson, Malachi Pearson of Norfolk, Virginia, along with a host of nieces and nephews including Wanda, Joanne Ann (Chubby), Diane, Jimmy, Jody, Nooney, John B., Regina, Johnny Tindal, Dawn, Jennifer, Sandy, Linda, Pat, Jay, Girly Cherl, Bette, Ms. Chris, and Pam. She is also survived by her Church Prayer Warriors, Sarah, Aleshia, Lewis, Shelia, Leshia, Ms. Chris, Pam, Barbara F., Aluin, Cheryl, Barbara B and longtime neighbor, Mary B.
Additional daughters and sons she lovingly embraced include Ericka Lassiter of Chandler, Arizona, Randy Wood of Warsaw, Virginia, Teddy Evans of Norfolk, Virginia, and Derek Vernon of Norfolk, Virginia.
