On June 9, 2024, our beloved Carolyn Y. Vernon, surrounded by family, received her wings and went home to be with the Lord. Carolyn was the youngest of four daughters born to the late Lillian and Elijah Urquhart. She was preceded in death by her husband Larry, as well as sisters Lucille Urquhart and Mae Muhammad.
Carolyn was a 1968 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and attended Norfolk State College (University). She retired from Tidewater Regional Transit after many years of dedicated years of service as a Dispatch Supervisor.
Carolyn found the Lord at a very young age. She was a dedicated servant at Faith Deliverance Christian Center for over 30 years and served on many ministries, committees, and outreach programs. These included but were not limited to, Church Greeter, Hands In the Earth Ministry, Women's Fellowship Ministry, Pastoral Care Ministry, Faith in Fitness Ministry, and passionately helped organize Breast Cancer awareness walks.
Carolyn had a love for helping others. She was a devoted friend, mentor, encourager, and prayer warrior.
Carolyn loved modeling, teaching etiquette classes, reading, and journal writing. She was known for her creativity, wittiness, high fashion, style, beautiful gift wrapping, and creative home decorating ideas.
She also loved spending time and traveling with her family and close friends.
Carolyn was known for having weekly Sunday dinners prepared for her children, grandchildren, and friends.
Left to love and cherish her memory are her sons Derrick Vernon (Latonya) and Darren Vernon, four grandchildren; Jasmine Cottom-Bolden (Jeremiah), Seth Cottom (Candace) Derrick Vernon Jr., and Brian Vernon; one great-granddaughter Simone Cottom; one sister, Jean Urquhart, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
