IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Beatrice Haskins
Vaughan
September 9, 1935 – February 21, 2024
.
Beatrice Haskins Vaughan of Virginia Beach, Virginia, departed this life on February 21, 2024, after a brief illness, and while in the presence of her loving daughters.
Beatrice "Bea" was one of nine children born to the late John Early Lawrence and Alice Bell Lawrence in Back Bay Station (Princess Anne County), Virginia Beach, Virginia. She grew up in Creeds and attended Virginia Beach public schools. As an adult, she moved to Norfolk, Virginia and married Raymond B. Haskins, Sr. They had six children together namely: Wanda, Raymond, Jr., Magiel, Freddy, Dru and Pamela. They resided in the Brambleton section of Norfolk, Virginia, alongside their grandparents, Lawrence & Isabell Haskins.
Bea was a loving and caring mother, sister, aunt, daughter-in-law, cousin and friend. She worked countless hours to make certain that all of her children's needs were met. Not only was she responsible for her six children (plus Regail), but she was also instrumental in helping to raise some of her other nieces and nephews. She took pride in providing nursing care to her private duty patients and their families for many years. All of Bea's children's friends adored her too. They enjoyed her company and of course, her good cooking. She always had enough for whoever dropped by—which was almost daily. Bea was known for her sense of humor and her infectious laugh. One of her favorite sayings was "don't mess with my kids". She would say this often although her "kids" were more than grown. Bea was a former member of Little Piney Grove Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, Virginia. She was a current member of Better Life Ministries/Cogic in Chesapeake, Virginia. She will be sorely missed.
Left to cherish Bea's memories are her daughters, Wanda Haskins of Virginia Beach , VA, Dru Haskins of Chesapeake, VA, and Pamela Haskins of Norfolk, VA; two sons, Raymond B. Haskins, Jr. (Carolyn) of Virginia Beach, VA, and Magiel Haskins (Vickie) of Fayetteville, NC; sisters, Florence Hines of Portsmouth, VA and Hyacinth Lawrence of Dallas, TX; one brother, William "Preston" Lawrence (Janice) of Connecticut; sisters-in-law, Della Lawrence of Virginia Beach, VA, Rebecca "Jeanette" Lockley and Alma Boone, both of New York, and Mary Lawrence of Virginia Beach, VA; nieces, nephews, eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends. Bea is also survived by a "special sister", Juanita Burke Haskins; a bonus daughter, Regail Haskins Watson (Terry); special grandson, Freddy Knight; great nieces, Brittney J. Watson and her triplet sisters, Courtney Dru Watson, Sydney Wanita Watson and Tiffany Michelle Watson; and a bonus son, Oliver Leon James, Jr.
Bea was preceded in death by her son, Freddy Haskins; her husband, Allen Vaughan; parents, John Early Lawrence and Alice Bell Lawrence; siblings, Alice Lawrence Owens, Birdie Kelly Green, Rev. Franklin Lawrence, Vivian Lewis, John Early Lawrence, Jr., and Myron Lawrence; special in-laws, Lawrence Haskins, Sr., Isabell Timberlake Haskins, Drewen "Fat-Rat" Haskins and Lawrence Haskins, Jr.
