Barbara Tyler Briggs, sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024, at the age of 85 at Lake Taylor Transitional Care Hospital. Born on January 21, 1939, Barbara lived a life filled with love, kindness, and unwavering faith. She touched the hearts of everyone she met with her warm, witty, feisty, and generous spirit.
Barbara grew up in a close-knit community in the Atlantic City area of Norfolk, Virginia. After graduating from St. Joseph's Catholic School, she pursued a career in nursing, completing two years at Norfolk State University. She dedicated 39 years of her life to The STOP Organization as a Comptroller.
In addition to her professional life, Barbara was a devoted mother to her sons, Roderic and Bryan Briggs. Her greatest joy came from her family. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spent as much time with them as she could, creating cherished memories. She was also an active member of her church community, Jerusalem Baptist Church, for many years and was loved for her strong sense of compassion and dedication.
Barbara will be remembered for her unwavering kindness, selfless nature, and her ability to make everyone laugh and feel special. She was a beacon of strength, always putting others before herself, and her loss will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She was predeceased by her parents, Vivian and Stanley L. Tyler; her brothers, Eugene Tyler and Stanley W. Tyler Sr.; and her sons, Roderic and Bryan Briggs.
Cherishing her memories; are her devoted brother, Douglass Tyler of Norfolk, VA; her grandchildren, Roderic (Lanita) of Hampton, VA; Lekeya (Branden) of Chesapeake, VA; Danaysia of Norfolk, VA; Kewon of Waco, TX; three great-granddaughters; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Barbara's legacy of love, generosity, and service will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
