It saddens us to announce the passing of our loved one, Arthur G. Akbar (Stephen Whitley). He was returned to Allah on Saturday December 24th. Arthur G. Akbar was born to parents, Moses and Helen Whitley on February 6, 1948, in Brooklyn, NY. Arthur was predeceased by his parents, sisters, Yvonne Johnson and Patricia Cody. He is survived by brothers, John R. Whitley (Bettie Jean) Raymond Whitley and Lanier M. Whitley along with a host of nieces and nephews. He graduated from G.W. Carver High School in 1966. He was a star athlete in track and field as well as football. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force shortly thereafter and served in the Vietnam War. After returning home, he opened Akbar Photography Studio in downtown Newport News and served the community for numerous years. Services and prayers will be handled by Riddick Funeral Service, December 30th 12noon at Riddick Funeral Service, with burial to immediately follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens
